Sheila Whittaker

Sheila's professional working history - she was originally a classically trained professional violinist and musician from a musical lineage, having studied at the Royal College of Music in London, and graduating with a GRSM degree and ARCM diploma. For nearly twenty years she had a thriving career in the mainstream classical music world, freelancing with many orchestras and chamber groups, and running a teaching practice alongside her performing work. Some years ago she felt the pull to use her musical abilities in a more holistic way : she did the Sound Healing training with Simon Heather, principal of the College of Sound Healing, and studied Gong with Don Conreaux.

Sheila is a course tutor for the UK College of Sound Healing and runs one of the main training courses for the College - the Gong Practitioner Training. She also teaches other Gong, Chant/mantra and Harmonium workshops for the College. She is an experienced holistic therapist and teacher, having taught and performed music in one form or another for over forty years. She is a member of the UK Sound Healers Association, and the CMA, and is also a traditionally trained ReikiMaster/teacher. In recent years she has specialised in the use of the Gong and other related instruments for her Sound Therapy work.

In 2010 Sheila published her first book - "Sound Healing with Gongs" - which was the first book of it's kind on this specialist subject, and has become a classic reference book for those wishing to begin their journey with the gongs. Her second book - "In the Heart of the Gong Space" - was published in 2012. She has recorded several gong CD's including "Transcendence", Quantum Transformations" and "Sounds of Stillness". Sheila's gong workshops are held in a super rural workshop space in east Devon near Honiton. She treats clients occasionally at her home in south Devon on the edge of Dartmoor, where she also gives private lessons to students of the gong.

"Just had to drop you a line to say thank you for a truly wonderful workshop on Saturday. I was absolutely exhausted by the time I had driven home yet couldn't contemplate sleep for several hours. I can't believe how much you covered in just one day, a great mix of theory and practical. I felt honoured to be let loose to 'play' on such sacred and obviously much loved instruments. I'm sure the healing effects of the day will last for quite some time".
Sally, Wales.
