Sepia – Homeopathic Remedy

Sepia (Sepia officinalis)

Sepia has been used widely by artists and healers for centuries. In fact, officinalis denotes that it has been used medicinally for many years. And in Roman times, it was even used as a cure for baldness.

Other names: Ink of the cuttlefish, Indian ink.

Parts used

The liquid contained in the ink bag of the cuttlefish.

Uses

Homeopaths may prescribe this remedy for:

Menstrual problems displaying the following symptoms: Pre-menstrual tension (PMT), menstrual pain, heavy bleeding, irregular periods.

Menopausal problems displaying the following symptoms: Hot flushes.

Postnatal depression

Chronic fatigue or exhaustion displaying the following symptoms: Muscular aches and pains.

Digestive disorders caused by eating dairy products displaying the following symptoms: Nausea, sickness, abdominal pain, wind.

Headaches displaying the following symptoms: Giddiness, nausea.

People requiring this remedy will feel worse: During cold weather or prior to a storm; in the morning and from about 4pm to 9pm; when pre-menstrual or on receiving sympathy from others.

People requiring this remedy will feel better: When warm; for rapid, energetic movement; when busy or out in the fresh air.

People suitable for this remedy are more often than not women, tending to be tall, thin and of a yellowish complexion. They are also likely to be independent, aloof, and resentful if crossed.

Sepia women are either hardened high-flyers or people unable to handle pressure, especially that which is often involved with running a home and looking after the family. Deep down inside they are usually very insecure, despite their self-opinionated approach to life.

The information given on this site about homeopathic remedies is just a general overview. Classical homeopathy takes all the patient’s symptoms into account and prescribes upon the “Totality of Symptoms”, thus finding the precise remedy that matches the patient’s symptoms perfectly.

Here, at The CMA we recommend that anyone interested in learning more about homeopathy and the fascinating remedies that homeopaths use should take an introduction course to homeopathy, which will help you to understand how to become a good home first-aid prescriber. This is ideal for ‘acute symptoms’. However, if you want to learn more – with a view even to becoming a professional homeopath, who is educated highly enough to be able to treat chronic conditions, you’ll need to be prepared to spend many years learning this vast and fascinating topic – along with anatomy, physiology and pathology, history of medicine, homeopathic philosophy, and much more. You’ll find both kinds of courses here on this site – head to our section on Find a CMA Member and search under CMA Registered Training Schools.
