Pelvic Correction Therapy
Pelvic Correction Therapy works to realign the pelvis, which is frequently the cause of problems such as frozen shoulder and many spinal, musculoskeletal and skeletal problems.
This document provides general information of what to expect when you visit a therapist, and a general theory behind how the discipline works. It must be noted, however, that every therapist works in an individual way, and may subscribe to slightly different theories on how the discipline works. It is always advised that you ask to see relevant qualifications and discuss the treatment offered to you by the practitioner if you are in any doubt whatsoever.
What is Pelvic Correction Therapy?
When the pelvis is out of alignment, problems occur. Pelvic correction therapy is a system that is often used to support other disciplines such as Shiatsu, chiropractic, osteopathy, and other body work practices. Since practitioners of Pelvic Correction Therapy consider the pelvis to be the foundation of the skeletal frame, when not aligned, it is in most cases, the cause of much spinal deterioration. After the pelvis is realigned, many people find that other seemingly unrelated disorders clear up. This is possibly due to the fact that if the pelvis is out of line then the spine will be too. This may cause organs to sit uncomfortably in the body, thus causing internal problems and discomfort, a problem with the digestive system is just one example of an ailment that can be the result of a pelvis that is out of alignment.

What to expect when you visit a therapist
You will be asked questions relating to your medical history and perhaps that of your immediate family. Lifestyle questions, such as stress levels, diet, exercise regimes, and sleep patterns will be asked to ensure that an holistic approach is taken. Your own expectations of the treatment and what you hope the therapy will achieve will also be discussed.
You will be asked to lie down on a couch, fully clothed in loose clothing; women should wear trousers as your leg will be bent at the knee in order to assess your condition. An assessment of the line of your pelvis will inform the therapist, who will then explain to you in what direction your pelvis is tilted (anterior, posterior, etc.), and show you how to remedy the situation. You will be taught exercises that you must then adopt in order to keep your pelvis in place. Many therapists will then treat you with some form of bodywork. You will need to attend follow-up session to ensure you are holding yourself correctly, as old habits die hard. It is important you attend further sessions to ensure you have lapsed into old way of holding yourself.
