Amber – Crystal Healing

Before it was discovered to be a resin, amber was thought to be the crystallised urine of the lynx cat.

Colour and description

Amber is translucent to the point of being transparent and is made of resin. At its lightest it is honey-coloured, and at its deepest it is a Reddish-brown. It can even appear as greenish or blue. You may find pieces of amber with insects or plant material inside, which increases value to these pieces, these ‘inclusions’ occurred when the resin was soft enough for the material to get stuck inside.

Other names: Good luck stone, Fossilised Resin, and Baltic gold.

Where is it found

Amber is a resin rather than a stone, yet it has been used in jewellery making and for healing purposes for years. The resin comes from a coniferous pine tree, called Pinus Succinifera from the Ogliocene period, which was 50 to 70 million years ago.

Hardness: 2½

(Talc is the softest at number 1 and diamond the hardest at number 10.)

Structure: Amorphous crystalline structure.

Uses

Crystal healers use amber to treat the following conditions:

Central nervous system: Brain, memory loss, disorders of the spine, cell regeneration.

Anxiety: Especially if it affects the stomach area.

Balancing hormones: Helpful for treatments of the endocrine system.

Other uses: Detoxifier. Amber is just the stone to use if you feel weighed down with life, or find yourself struggling and feeling burdened. It brings joy and freedom, and lifts the spirits.

Element: Air
